Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital in Warm Springs, GA
Marmaduke Loke was invited
to present at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital in Warm Springs, GA
on April 13, 2006. The Polio conference also had great
presentations by Dr. Marny Eulberg from St.
Anthony's Hospital in Denver, CO. She founded the Post-Polio Clinic over
20 years ago. Mark Taylor, CPO Director of University
of Michigan Orthotic & Prosthetic Department and Carlos Valenzuela, CP from Progressive
Orthopedics.
It was an honor to present
and stay at such a historic rehabilitation facility. Warm
Springs was especially known for the rehabilitation of polio survivors
after Franklin D. Roosevelt established it as the first modern
rehabilitation hospital. FDR even built a little White House
in Warm Springs, GA. FDR returned often to take advantage of
the benefits the warm springs, therapy's, and where he had his braces
made.
Today, Warm Springs
Rehabilitation Hospital sees people with various neuromuscular
disorders not just Polio. The spirit of helping and healing
is still evident. I recommend a trip to take the guided tour
of Warm Springs and the Little White House with the adjoining museum.
